Xperia 1 II - HELP! Rattle from bottom 5th of phone. camera also rattles when used and when not.

Basically, I am growing to love this phone.

I wasn't immediately blown away but I do love it, but today I've noticed the bottom portion of the phone rattles and if you tap it or place it down the noise the phone makes is quite unsettling.

the camera also rattles when being used and when not.

Any ideas? I would love for it to be a noiseless phone so it backs up the premium feel, cant help but feel like there are components rattling around on the inside of the phone.

I've not noticed a rattle from mine if I give it a shake, except the usual rattle from lenses. There is a slight vibration rattle from the bottom if I tap it firmly, but nothing that I'd say is a problem, I just won't tap it that hard in regular use.

I find that hard to believe unless I have an issue with mine.

I am by no means making it out to be awful but just irritating that there isn't some sort of noise buffering for moving parts.

In regards to the bottom half, its incredibly frustrating as whenever I place my phone down on a surface it vibrates with that rattle. you can say 'ill never tap it that hard' but even placing it down it rings out like there is something loose inside.

I appreciate its probably the cool motor inside as the audio enhancement etc is awesome, but the fact your an 'expert' here indicates to me your probably not without your bias toward Sony. I would just simply like to know if all this excess noise is known about or if its somehow an issue with my handset. it just baffles me that there is as much movement inside the handset are there is. I would have been much happier if my £800 handset did not rattle when I throw it down 1mm on a mousepad. baffles me.

Even when i carefully place one side of the phone down and then release the other side, the rattly vibration noise it makes is horrible. From literally no height at all either.

Actually, you'll find that if there's an issue in the past, I've often advised people on getting stuff repaired, or in the case of new phones, replaced, especially on new phones that like you, I just bought. Believe me, there is no bias towards anyone when it's £799 of my money, I am just being truthful that I don't notice anything rattling beyond when I tap it quite hard, or the usual lens rattles.

In fact I'm not 100% sure the tapping rattle I get isn't indeed the lenses.

Your best bet is to find another, or other brand phone with a few lenses and check them, my wife's S10 has a rattle if you tap the top, or drop onto a mouse mat, again I think it's the lens assembly,

More than likely the haptic feedback or vibration mechanism.

Not really designed to be "thrown on a mousemat"

In the words of Father Liam Deliverance from Father Ted,  "Shoddy, Shoddy, Shoddy!"

And the lens mechanism may vibrate, or "rattle", due to the lens array., it's more like clicks, than a rattle.

Hardly room for anything in there to rattle.

If every thing is working, and fault free, I wouldn't worry, but remember if what that is, is normal, and you send of for a repair or replacement, the next one might be the same, or "worse".

Thank you for implying I am mistreating the device by "throwing it"

If you read my first reply you can see I wrote 1mm which if you use your third leg you will know is a tiny distance.

Also, not sure if your implying my use of the phone is shoddy, or the design of a device that is placed down from any height that rattles and makes odd noises is shoddy, but a rather interesting use of father ted non the less.

Still I appreciate all the feedback, and I am still baffled that a device that costs this much makes as much noise as it does.

Still confused if you guys are being honest and critical or just gatekeeping Sony, I love the phone just feel like this has been missed and looking for honest feedback.

Regards,

Sony guy .

The assembly does rattle yes.

but in the bottom right side there is 100% a rattle, and considerable vibration that makes the phone feel hollow

I have no idea if it's a feature of the phone from the factory, but I've had it for four months and I've never noticed anything like that. But today I wanted to take a picture and when activated the camera started making strange noises, I very much doubt that I would not have noticed something like this before. I wouldn't mind that much, but the phone started making strange noises even when I start shaking it ... I'm very worried, because I'm not aware that it would have done such a thing in the past. With such an expensive phone, it's unacceptable ...

The question of what to do with it?

  • Have exchanged for another?
  • Ignore it?

I really wonder what could have happened. (My phone didn't drop anything like that ...)

If you live near any mobile shop, you can head to one of them and check the other models if they make the same noise.

Also you can maybe take a video with another device and show us? if the noise is louder than normal lenses focusing or such, it could be hardware adhesives that need enhancement.
