Hey!
I got the phone today as it just got released and was really looking forward trying the cameras. The main cameras are working well but the front one is extremely blurry and feels like it's smoothing my face and everything else extremely to the point that it looks like something greasy is on the lens. Video calls are a horrible experience at the moment and I'm really hoping someone can help me resolve this. I went through all the options of the camera and tried them but none seemed to make a difference with this.
If someone could give me any advice that would be amazing.
Kindest regards,
Emanuele
Sony make their own camera sensors and supply it to major manufacturers like Apple and Google. Why would they use a Samsung sensor?
People have mentioned in other threads, that Samsung uses Sony's lenses, how do you know the x5m2 has a Samsung sensor?
Also is the video quality in other social media apps bad, as if it's the one app, troubleshoot it, by clearing cache, uninstalling updates, then the app itself and re-install it once more.

Many reasons, coul be that maybe Samsung might have had a deal with some sensors along with oled panels, could be financial where the Samsung sensor was cheaper than even Sony's in-house FF sensor. Lots of reasons possible that us mere mortals are never to learn.
That couldn't be more true, corporate entities make the decisions that are suitable for the continuity of the business and to consist profits, either by saving on production or any other means really, a lot goes on backstage where we simply just can't access, and for obvious reasons to avoid controversy. Cheers fellow mortals.
It is a kind of a slap in the face insult for Sony users for Sony to use Samsung sensors on a Sony phone.
If I wanted low quality Samsung sensors I would have bought a samsung, along with its rubbish memory management, bloatware and their slow version of Android.
We buy Sony for SONY products.
Device info shows the 1 mark 1 to have 3 Samdung sensors and one sony
front camera main rear and tele are Samsung and only the ultra wide is sony
The 1 mark 2 has two Samdung and two Sony. (selfie and tele are Samsung and the main and ultrawide are sony)
It might be fair to say that Sony PM's are kind of laughing at us by putting Samsung sensors on a sony phone KNOWING that its ALWAYS the Samsung sensors that let the phone down. For example: the main sensor on the 2019 model Xperia 1 (could not perform any kind of stability at 4k video recording)
Example on my channel
Now that Sony have used a SUPERIOR Sony sensor as the main sensor on the Mark 2, instead of the lower quality Samsung one on the 2019 model, then we see decent stabilisation, but its marred by the rubbish front camera.
Listen up Sony: We KNOW like all other big companies that you don't care about brand loyalty and things like that, but this you should take to heart. USE Sony Sensors exclusively in a SONY phone otherwise you are simply setting yourself up to fail
SAMSUNG Sensors are the Suxxors Sony sensors FTW
