Hi,

this is a virgin media problem, its possible the box is faulty, their call centre is run by a bunch of idiots who rely on their line managers for answers!, hence the "i'll just put you on hold".

45 minutes the other day just to sort a simple problem out, GRRR!!

Hi,

sounds like a faulty ViginMedia remote to me. Is the TEXT button jammed down (so it keeps asking for TEXT) or did you spill something on it? One way to find out is to cover the end of the remote so it can't send any signal out (presume it is IR and not RF remote!). Also try removing the batteries to reset the remote.

Also, have you tried removing the mains from the VM box and restarting it? They sometimes get stuck in a mode and need a power down. Alternatively, ask them for a modern replacement (Samsung) box. It will probably be FOC.

Thanks for your response. I was fairly sure it was a Virgin Media problem. I really got the impression the person on the customer support line didn't know what he was talking about and gave the easiest answer he could think of. I can now go back to him and say I have been advised its not a problem with the TV.

I checked the Text button and it is not pressed down and I have not spilt anything on it. I have unplugged the box but this did not help. I will try removing the batteries in the remote but I think I will upgrade the box and see what happens.

your welcome, upgrade to a TiVo box, get HD, pause and rewind live tv, and its so simple to record tv as well.
