Windows firewall and windows update no longer working.

Whenever i try to turn on my windows firewall i get the message ' windows firewall cant change some of your settings. Error code 0x80070424 ' and when i try to turn of windows update i get the message ' windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.'

I dont have a backup disk and i also dont have a windows installation disk, can anyone help me fix this problem.

Hi Kye 1991 and welcome.

I also had that Windows Update error message. I checked and all the Services were running and I assumed Microsoft were having problems with their servers. In the end, I got Windows Update to run normally by opening it through the Start -> All Programs menu rather than from Control Panel.

Of course it may have been a Server error which fixed itself but it is worth trying to run it from the Start Menu.
