    <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;I have a Sony Vaio&amp;nbsp; &lt;SPAN style="background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: -webkit-auto; font-size: 10pt;"&gt;VGN-AR71M&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN style="background-color: #ffffff; text-align: -webkit-auto; font-size: 10pt;"&gt; and for some reason vertical lines have started appearing all over the screen even on the BIOS window.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="background-color: #ffffff; text-align: -webkit-auto; font-size: 10pt;"&gt;I have done loads of search on the internet and found out that the problem lies in the GPU (Graphics card/Chip).&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="background-color: #ffffff; text-align: -webkit-auto; font-size: 10pt;"&gt;I have also heard that Sony are aware of the issue and are accepting returns. However I am not sure if my laptop is included in the list.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="background-color: #ffffff; text-align: -webkit-auto; font-size: 10pt;"&gt;I have also lost receipts of purchase &lt;img class="lia-deferred-image lia-image-emoji" src="https://community.sony.ee/html/@8A5BDCECEE2E5AB683F2BDAA500F2036/images/smilies/035.png" alt=":slight_frown:" title=":slight_frown:" /&gt; Im i left with a faulty laptop?       <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Hi LatinUnit,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;From what you describe it does sound as though you have either a faulty graphics chip or a GPU solder problem. If possible try attaching an external monitor in order to rule out a screen problem.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Unfortunately your machine is certainly out of the one year warranty period, plus this is not one of the models that Sony acknowledge was affected by the faulty Nvidia chip problem.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;A re-ball may possibly solve the problem - placing the motherboard in the oven is not to be recommended!&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;A Google will provide many hits for the re-ball procedure and some repairers will offer a guaranteed repair or no charge (with the exception of carriage).&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Rich &lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
