I am trying to download books onto my PRS300 and keep getting a message to say that the computer is not authorised and yet adobe additions say the computer is authorised. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software for the reader but still no joy. It says there is no licence to view or authorised to another. Can anyone help? Easy jargon please or step by step!

Hi, I would check in Reader Library what is showing under Help/ About, its should show the registered e-mail address, and it should say 'This Computer is authorised for Aobe DRM protected content, if is says not authorised you would need to download a book via Reader Library to establish a link to your Adobe log in

Hi, thanks for your response. Yes I have done this and it is authorised to my email address. Not sure the next steps to take. Any suggestions where I am going wrong?

Are all previous books opening ok on Reader and PC?

are you using the same PC or has this changed?

It may be worth doing a hard reset of the Reader and re-authorise it via ADE and try again.

1.Push reset
2.Slide the power switch
3.Hold "direction down" button and "0" button down for ~30sec when device is starting up

further to your earlier response to another user I did a hard reset of my PRS300 and am able to open previous books I have bought but not my most recent ones. It is still saying not authorised to view or failed. Where am I going wrong? Should I just give this up and buy some more and try and download these to see if they work OK?

I have changed my PC i originally put the reader on a Mac but now have a Pc and every time I try to drag and drop books that I have brought it says the the reader is authorised to another user

How do I get it registered to my PC

I have exactly the same problem with my PRS-650 so if anybody knows how to solve I would be grateful. I have also changed my email address so that probably doesn't help.

Hi,

The key to all of these issues is that both the computer, and the Reader to which you want to transfer copyright protected eBooks must both be authorised with the same Adobe Digital ID (this is usually an e-mail address and a password that you assign). One further point to note, any eBooks purchased are tied to the ID that was in use on the computer at the time of purchase. The implication of this is that if you change your computer, or have a problem with the hard disk etc (anything that might mean that you would have to re-authorise the same or a new computer), if you create a new Adobe ID then the eBooks purchased on the previous ID will not open - you have to re-authorise using the same logon (usually an e-mail) and password. This is still the case even if you have a Reader device matched to this new ID - although freshly purchased eBooks would be fine.

The easiest way to check which ID (e-mail) the computer is registered to is to open the Reader Library software and click 'Help' at the top and select 'About Reader Library'. This will tell you if the computer is authorised or not, and the e-mail it is linked to if it is authorised. (It's not a problem if the e-mail address is no longer being used - you just won't get any e-mails from Adobe:smileywink: - but it is important to use this e-mail as your logon if you have existing eBook content that you bought using this ID that you want to be able to view and transfer to your Reader in the future).

When you have an authorised computer, drag and drop one of your (purchased) copyright protected eBooks over to your Reader using the Reader Library software. If you see a prompt asking you to authorise the Reader, make sure you use the same Adobe ID and password as for the computer and that should be it!

If you don't get the prompt and the eBook transfers straight away - and you can read it on your Reader device, you are also good to go! If however, when you try to open the eBook on your Reader you get a message saying that it can't be opened due to copy protection or DRM or words to that effect, then you first need to de-authorise the Reader device, and then re-transfer the eBook again afterwards at which point you should seed the on-screen prompt to authorise the Reader device again. As before make sure that the ID and password match those used for the computer and that should then solve the problem.

N.B. if you need to de-authorise the Reader device, make sure it is connected to your computer via USB, open the Reader Library software and make sure you have clicked on 'Reader' in the menu down the left hand side of the screen (so that you are displaying any content stored on the Reader itself) - then press the following three keys together: Ctrl+Shift+D ...if you then click on the 'Status' in the left hand menu you should see confirmation that the Reader is de-authorised).
