Ringtone and notifications not working after android 6 update

I have noticed that ringtones and notifications are not working even though the volume in settings is at highest and a valid song is being set as ringtone.

I tried adding different ringtones and notification tones but it's in vain.

Music player works fine and there is no physical damage.

Help!

@AJINKYA17 where is the music stored? If it is on external memory, try adding something from internal memory.

@alexdon tried, not working! Usually when we move the volume level of ringtone it plays for a short duration, it is not playing now. Tried setting ringtone from settings panel as well as music player.

Boot in safe mode and give it a try.

@alexdon Yes it is working in safe mode. How do I make it work in normal mode?

In this case, a 3rd party app is creating this problem. What have you installed before the update?

I have installed lot of apps, it's working fine after a normal restart.

can you try to perform Xperia Diagnostics?

how about booting in safe mode?

make sure you have not activate DND option , and try to press volume up several times.

if still not working try software repair using Xperia Companion

Hello. I have a problem with my xperia z3 after the marshmallow update. The phone is working ok but after a couple of days it suddenly stops ringing and no matter what i do the phone does not ring when calls are incoming. If i do a restart then it's ok bu it is a very stupid problem. What is the cause of this problem and why it occurs after a while?

It can be a 3rd party app acting up. restart into safe mode and try to test if it happens there too.

The problem is it happens totally random and i don't know when the problem occurs. I took a bug report if that helps.

How can i identify the app that is causing this problem. Allso, al my music is stored on the sd card but the ringtone is standard(xperia). It is very anoying...

It's hard to know, either you uninstall your apps one by one until the problem is solved, or you can factory reset your phone or better perform a software repair using Xperia Companion and install your apps gradually.

I'm using Xperia z3, I'm not getting any notification sounds for whatsapp and other messaging services but the vibrating alert is working ,but call notifications are working fine, whatsapp call works fine too
