Movies App crashing when playing 4K video Z5 Premium w/ android 32.1.A.1.163

I updated my z5P to the new firmware 32.1.A.1.163 via PCC. The app was working well, and I could play almost every 4K video I throw at it but after the update the movies app keeps crashing when I try to play old 4k videos. I have no problem when I record in 4K, also I used VLC video player and they do run any video that I play (even 4k, but I dont think I can get 4k resolution)

The videos that I try to watch are from this site

I can still play them by using VLC player app on my device

(I loved to show to my friends the awesome 4k #display of the Z5 premium and everyone loves the high quality details from the screen)

I really look forward for an update fix soon. Movies app version on my device: 9.5.A.0.20.

Everything else runs great, except that I also found a bug when displaying battery usage, no system icons appear, except a shadow like icon (screenshot attached) but I can live with that 😛

Everything else is running ok.

I can't recreate that issue, could you test the phone on >>> safe mode?

where are you storing the videos?

videos are saved on SD card. I did not had any problems playing them with previous Lollipop version. I will try safe mode

move some of the videos to the internal storage and check again, I think that might be the problem.

Safe mode did not worked out, I still have the issue of not be able to play some 4K videos but I still get to hear sound playing back, until the message "cant play the video" is pops out. I think it might be the sony movies oralbum app.

Again, here is the link of the sample videos that Im trying to watch, maybe the issue are on the videos? Anyone has any issue playing any of those?

Videos are saved on the internal phone memory at the bluetooth carpet (for my easy transfer/erase)

Yes, I still have the same issue on trying to play some 4k sample videos. I try another site ( http://4ksamples.com/ ) and I was able to play the "007 skyfall trailer" but it seems that the sample it is not 4k at all, looks upscaled the video (not so sharp, kind of blurry, probably because its a different format "cinema vs video" render but im not an expert in that field, that is just my opinion).

The few seconds that my z5P was able to play any samples from: http://demo-uhd3d.com/categorie.php?tag=sony without crashing the sony album/video app I did saw the beauty of 4k resolution, amaizing colors & ultra sharp. .

I have the latest official update 32.1.A.1.185 (until todays date)

Are you downloading, or streaming.
In my experience, streaming from that site is crap. Downloading direct to the phone is pretty hit and miss too.
Download to a pc and transfer but don't try any hdr titles as they won't play obviously as the phone is not hdr, also some other manufacturers videos are an encrypted file format that can only be played on that manufacturers equipment.

I also thought about you said regarding the videos that are encoded for some brands or certain devices. I downloaded the samples directly to my PC, then I transfer to the phone but I could not played it on the sony album/video app

Oh well, I guess I just have to record my self some nice 4k videos from my camera phone so I can show to my friends what a beauty display I got.

Guya i have this problem too, i even cant play with vlc, the permission about 4k resolution will just go with app movies i gusss. It disgusting my friends come and play that clips with s7 and i cant even that phones are not 4k
I hope Sony do sth with it

Hi,

I've only recently got my firmware updated and I have the same problem. None of the 4k videos can be played any more. The phone crashes after a couple of seconds, resets to default screen settings / theme, regardless of where the file sits or which app I use to play it. This also applies to videos recorded with the same device on which I'm trying to play them. Sony must have stuffed up something really bad here... Hopefully next unwanted update will fix this bug.
