Thank you for the quick answer Alexdon. Can you give an idea how can I find out which reverse tethering application can I trust? And if I root my device, how will it affect its warranty and security?

Hi,

how can I the Xperia Z2 use the Internet connection provided by a PC through USB cable? WiFi is not an option, would prefer not to install any apps on the mobile since all which I have found were asking for rooting the device. It's very surprising that it's not in the settings by defualt. It can be easily set on other devices (e.g. HTC), and the regular tethering (using the phone's internet connection for the PC) can be set on the phone as well.

Further I wonder why are the options in Settings on Xperia Z2 so limited? No manipulation for the USB connection, no developer's setting, why?

Thank you for your answers in advance.

Ok, the recommendation above regarding contacting SONY support was a joke I take it. Made a **bleep** out of myself and tried it. Have a laugh at my expense:

Please wait while we find an agent to assist you...
You are currently in position number 1 in the queue.
You have now been connected to an agent.
John: Hi Peter, thank you for contacting Sony Xperia UK Chat Support. My name is John, please could I take your full name and email address?
Peter: Hi, my name is Peter **bleep**, **bleep**@**bleep**.org
John: Thank you for providing me with this information, Please could you confirm which model of phone you have and which network it is on?
Peter: It's a Xperia Z2 on EE
John: Thank you for providing me with this information, with regards to the query you posted you are using can you please advise how your computer gets its Internet connection please?
Peter: Ethernet
Peter: Connected via powerline to a bt hub.
Peter: pc is configured to forward ip traffic but I currently don't have a dhcp server set up to provide the phone. This could be done but it would be easier in this case to configure routing and ip address on the phone for the usb connection manually.
John: Unfortunately it would not be possible to do this with the Sony Xperia Z2. Have you checked with BT as I'm sure their hubs have Wi-Fi capability?
Peter: it does but it's too far away for me to get it.
Peter: not an option. sorry.
Peter: I was hoping to use the share wifi feature to provide some wifi locally.
Peter: ok, on the forums are explanations on how to do it but it says i need to get root access on the phone. Is there a way to do this without breaking warranty?
John: Unfortunately that is option which is not possible. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
John: No problem (name). I hope the information I have provided is okay. Is there anything else I can help you with?
John: Please be aware that this chat will disconnect within 5 minutes if we do not hear from you.
Peter: REPEAT: ok, on the forums are explanations on how to do it but it says i need to get root access on the phone. Is there a way to do this without breaking warranty?
John: No I have no instructions as I can not advise you on how to root the handset
Peter: Right, so basically I need to break warranty to use standard android features on sony phones?
Peter: Well, might help me to get rid of that annoying Xperia Lounge spamming.
Peter: ok 'John', thanks for your help
John: No problem Peter. I hope the information I have provided is okay. Thanks for using Sony Xperia Chat Support today. Goodbye.
Your session has ended. You may now close this window.
