Hey everyone! The purpose of this thread is to ask anything that you wish to know about the XZ Premium; other users owning an Xperia XZ Premium and forum staff will do our best to reply!

As an example, prior to purchasing an Xperia XZ Premium you may be wondering if someone has tried out a specific third party app or feature on their XZ Premium, and could tell you a bit more about the compatibility and functionality as the app may important in your daily life. Staff and other users can come in and reply and let you know how it works!

The goal of this thread is to help each other out as a community. We will try to moderate this thread so that any new threads with a fitting question will instead be moved here, while we of course keep support threads the way they are now.

Okay here goes.

- Can Daydream VR be used unofficially on the XZP?

- How is overheating on the phone? Does it get hot from any lengthy game sessions or 4k recording?

- Can file sizes above 4GB be stored on micro SD cards slotted in the phone? (File systems like NTFS or EXFAT or the like supported basically)

Q: Out of the box, what Apps are displayed in full 4K?

Have not experienced any kind of overheating or anything beyond warm, even streaming 4k

Shouldn't be a problem with EXFAT, I'll test later

Hi @RoboticBot! I see that you got a reply from one of the developers in your thread, which was that the Album app and many video apps support 4K while in landscape - and aside from that it uses Full HD. Complete reply found here.

To try and give you a more complete list of apps, I will forward it internally and let you know as soon as I receive some more information!

What is the blinking sensor?

Even though I own the XZP, I have one question. When its dark, I can see a sensor blinking when the screen is on (you can see that sensor on the picture). What sensor is that? I think its next to the approximate sensor.

it's blinking red in the dark, isn't it? yes, it's a proximity sensor. it's supposed to emit infrared light but its frequency is very close to the range of the spectrum of the visible light, so you can see it sometimes.

Do you enable 'Adaptive brightness' option in display settings? If so, that is the phone's ambient light sensor.

Is apps on microsd slower?

Does moving apps to microsd have would cause a performance drop instead of it being resided in the internal storage? (which is UFS 2.1)?

It will load slower, yes.

The fastest sd is still no match for UFS memory

Well i was hoping to get a new sony xperia xz premium but than I heard that it has lcd display while for daydream a phone should have oled display.

So here are my questions:

Q1) Does it support daydream or will be able to?

Q2) I am a huge sony products fan and it would be awesome if sony releases its own vr headset for phones. So is there any chance of it happening?

Q2, who knows, they certainly are in the vr market with PSVR, so never say never.

Is Protection by my Xperia gone in this new XZ Premium?

So i have just got my ned XZ Premium, changing from my old Xperia Z3+(with android 7) where i did have My Xperia protection activated... But when i got this new phone i can't find the app my xperia protection any longer. So is it gone totaly? I can't find it anywhere on my phone or in googleplay store.

yeah it's gone, but you can use Android Device Manager which does pretty much the same thing https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.adm

Is the double tap function coming back? i also would like to request sony to bring back their own world clock. Both functions are what i use the most on sony lineup of phones.

At the present time, there are no plans to bring back tap to wake, but who knows if they will bring it back, demand does seem to be there.

As for world clock, I never used it so didn't even notice it gone tbh, you could probably search Google for the apk and get it loaded manually.

Anyone get any recommendations as to the best memory card to stick in it, I'm mainly interested in storage of photos and video as I shoot so something fast (and I undestand max 256GB)

any major brand (SanDisk, Samsung and so on) should be fine. just check the storage speed before purchasing.

I cant seem to get the predictive capture working on my XZ Premium. Tried shooting both fast & slow moving objects under auto mode but none of them triggers the predictive capture. Anyone has this issue?
