XZ Premium constant freezing and lag after.

Hi just got my phone 2 weeks ago.

After I charged it over night just at the start of the second week the phone failed to unlock after pressing different buttons.

Finally it unlocked but was incredibly laggy. Now I'm finding at random times of the day when I haven't been operating the phone it lags really badly and fails to unlock again.

Couldn't even type into the keyboard with out the phone freezing up and then releasing its self after about 10 seconds.

Finding I'm having to restart the phone every time this happens.

Has any body else had this issue happen to them and is there a way to fix this?

How soon after restarting the phone do you notice this issue?

It's a bit all over the place. Notice it the most after charging the device, but this morning just did it as I woke up. Phone hadn't been used since 11:00 the night before didn't go onto charge, picked it up at about 10 to go through messages and reply and started playing up again.

Try starting your phone in safe mode and see if it does the same thing. This is so we can test to see if the issue is caused by third party apps or not.

I'm experiencing the same issue, had done a factory reset and only installed a couple of apps to test and still persists. Phone will seriously lag at least once a day and force me to reboot.

Will also lag on some web pages causing me to close and restart the app. Only 2 weeks old also.

Build #45.0.A.1.229. Australia via Optus.

Exact same problem here (also 45.0.A.1.229). Phone will become very laggy and unresponsive at completely random times. Sometimes it returns to normal after about 5 - 10 mins while other times the only solution is to perform a restart.

Installed Simple System Monitor from the app store to see what was going on and when this happens, 1 CPU core is maxed to 100% the entire time.

I'm in Australia, also on Optus.

Edit: If there is any way of seeing apps by CPU usage (I understand Google removed this in 7.0/7.1) we would be able to know for certain what is causing it.

Hi all,

Same problem here. Basically I have 1-3 sudden lags with my phone everyday and I can only reboot it most of the time. I feel like this started to happen right after one update from Sony, but I am not really sure yet.

I got my phone from Sony Hong Kong. Will definitely appreciate any solutions, as I am feeling a bit annoyed about this already.

Yes, I had too encountered this issue on my XZ premium as well.

It would just suddenly start to slow down to a crawl and become extremely unresponsive until you have to do a restart. Sometimes it will just do it when it was just in my pocket without doing anything and when that happens, the phone feels warm.

Frequency of occurence: random, can be within few days/a week

Model: G8142, Customized SG

I'm the same, xperia xz premium on optus.. Every night after a charge phone freezes and very laggy, it's not usable.. Have to restart to fix.. This is crazy if I have to do this every morning.

Hi there,

I'm pleased I found this - I'm having exactly the same issue as described.

I want to love this phone but the fact I have to restart it every morning or worse it freezes right at the moment I need it most is incredibly frustrating.

I am a 'mininalist' user with very few apps so not sure what's going on.

Looking forward to hearing of a solution from Sony...

Have tried this and issue continues without fail - in the morning after a full battery charge over night.

Only fix is a restart - if the phone doesn't completely freeze.

My phone also has this problem.

In one day: five resets while charging, one reset while browsing by Chrome and one while answering the call.

It started this week in my phone. I have it from 7th june.

What to do?

Adding my name to the list.

Completely random freezes, no pattern at all. Restart has been the only fix so far.

Phond definitely feels warm (and battery percentage drops accordingly), almost like it has been under heavy load while asleep in my pocket.

Ive had my new ( only two weeks) handset freeze a coupke of times and its quite frustrating as i like many others want to love this phone (Jumped from IOS to android also).

Its just rung in my pocket and the screen was black and i couldnt answer the call. Had to restart to resolve issue both times.

I'm also having this problem, phone is only 2 weeks old and will randomly freeze up every couple of days and have to be restarted. There doesn't seem to be any consistent pattern, sometimes it happens when just opening the lock screen, other times when using various different apps. This is my first Sony and like everyone else, while I want to love it, this issue is quite disappointing. Considering a few other people seem to be having the same problem hopefully it's just a software issue that will be resolved with the next update. Willing to try any solutions Sony has to offer.

Hi all same issue here - phone 2 - 3 weeks old through Optus Australia - I had 2 Xperias phones before this XZ and no issues - there must be a software issue - freezing, slow, randomly closing down, sometimes can't take phone calls as screen is black.. If not solved in 2 weeks I am going to ask for a different phone as it is not up to standard. I like Sony Xperia's but this model has an issue

Do try using Xperia companion and use the software repair option. This will destroy anything on the phone (not external sd card). It will force flash mode on the phone and download a new copy of the firmware on it (system software).

I had tried a factory reset which didn't help the situation and had enough so around four days ago I thought I'd give this a crack (software repair via Xperia companion) and haven't had any issues thus far - although I've kept it as close to stock as I can.

Was suffering from massive lag issues, typically presented itself after an overnight charge (but not always) and the day on which I nuked it it was also getting warm to the touch (62 degrees), now runs as it should (34 degrees and no lag).

I had also tried enabling developer options and selecting to destroy apps on exiting and limiting background processes as thought there could be a memory leak (No difference).

It's interesting that this is the case as I would've thought this issue would be prevalent on all devices if they were from the factory like this (at least the Otptus based ROM).

I should note that I haven't enabled the Optus app as yet which I had done during the factory reset, perhaps that's the underlying issue? (carrier installed bloatware)
