My W995 has no problem connecting to any wireless network I've tried it with so far - WPA and open networks have connected, and the green wireless icon pops up. However, I can't use the connections to access the internet and when I check the information, the IP address is always beginning 169, so the phone couldn't get an IP address. Is there a problem with DHCP on this phone?

I have tried manually setting an IP address, gateway and DNS addresses and this has NOT solved the problem. The green wireless icon still pops up but I cannot use the connection to access the internet.

I ran the update service yesterday so I think the software is up to date.

How can I fix this please? Thanks.

Thanks, but I have already done that and it hasn't made any difference. It has worked briefly since I first posted, but I don't know why because I didn't change anything, and it isn't working right now. The PC I am posting from is connected wirelessly to the same router, so the router isn't the problem.

You can try a Master Reset, as this should clear up any glitches in the software that may be causing the problem. It will also return the settings back to the original factory settings (which should be correct for Wi-Fi connectivity), so remember to back your phone up if you decide to this.

I have tried that. I even did an update again to be sure. I've got 1215-7995 R1HA035 091210. Tried wifi with manual and automatic IP setting. With automatic it again ended up with a 169... IP address. With manual IP the IP was set properly but I still got 'communication error' when trying the bundled browser.

I'm back again because exactly the same thing happened to me today and the problem was fixed like this: switch off WiFi on mobile and also shut down & switch off the power to PC&Router.Leave it all off for a few minutes, then switch everything back on and reconnect your mobile to the router via Wi-Fi.

Hope this works for you as well.Of course, you can only do this with your home router or one you have physical access to.

The security on my router is WPA Personal, as are most protected networks, and have no problem using the internet over Wi-Fi on the W995 either with my router or at hot-spots, except for that one time I mentioned previously.I can't see it being a router security setting issue and, since software and master resets don't work, it's more likely to be a hardware defect in some of the W995's which should be covered by the warranty. However, it might still be worth trying the "repair phone" option via PC suite, just in case!

It could be a hardware problem.Does the Wi-Fi automatically come on after you restart the phone, even though it was switched off before you turned off the phone? My W995 does exactly that and cannot find any network, just like yours. It's now at the service centre because everything I tried didn't work.

Hi Oscar,

I have just bought w995 and have experienced the same problem as you using installed application through WIFI.

I have tried all different options like static ip and dmz on the router, but nothing helped.

Sollution seems to be quite simple. I have found it on the following forum:

http://forums.se-nse.net/topic/45252-w995-wifi-connection-issues/

You must to "create" an internet account in your w995:

Menu > Settings > Connectivity(tab)> Internet Settings
and in:

Menu > Settings > Connectivity(tab)> Streaming Settings

"Create" - I mean only name it and save, without any settings.

After this all aplications like: Opera mini, Googlemaps, Youtube are working....!!!

Cheers...

I've been wroking on this problem, driving me crazy... I have a house wifi connection to the W995, status green and good. WPA security.

Got suspicious when I found I could use the Youtube app online (via Wifi, no mobile signal at home) - So I assumed it was the browser? or something related to it.

So here's my latest discovery....

If I click on the Sony 'PlayNow' button in the main menu it opens the browser to Sony's site. So I'm thinking (again) how come the browser works now? After the Sony page has finished loading, I clicked on options>go to> bookmarks etc... and IT WORKS, like the browser ought to.
