HI All. Just got a new Sony Xperia Z3 compact and having some frustrations with e-mail! I have already discovered the limitations of the phone's e-mail app when it comes to deleting e-mails and my problem makes that even more irritating!

I have a BT Internet e-mail address which I intend to keep using. Incoming e-mails therefore arrive on the BT / Yahoo server.

I have a desktop PC at my home office and that is where I hold the "master" copy of my e-mails on that desktop PC, on Outlook, and so things are set up so that when the e-mails clear down from the BT / Yahoo server on to my Outlook, they automatically clear from the BT / Yahoo server inbox.

With my previous Smartphone (a Blackberry) there was no problem with setting it up so that it effectively "mirrored" the BT / Yahoo server inbox - when e-mails arrived they appeared on my phone in the In box and they remained there until they cleared down from the BT / Yahoo server on to Outlook on my desktop PC. At that poiunt, they automatically cleared off my Smartphone. It was also very simple to set up my Smartphone e-mail handling so that if an e-mail arrived on my Smartphone and I did not wish to keep it, I could delete it from my Smartphone AND the BT / Yahoo server inbox. This meant that I didn't have to see it ever again when the BT / Yahoo server next cleared down to my desktop PC Outlook.

I SPECIFICALLY asked the salesman if achieving the same outcome was possible on my new Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. He assured me that it was and we double checked the information relating to the phone. It made it clear the e-mail was set up so that it "mirrored" the webmail server and so it seemed that it would do as my Blackberry did and clear e-mails automatically when they cleared down from the BT / Yahoo server. Except they don't - they stay on the Smartphone and have to be manually deleted (with all the hassle of double deleting, first from Inbox and then from Trash as there is no "Empty Trash" functionality.

Nevertheless, everything appeared OK with the option for deleting from Smartphone and BT / Yahoo server as I found an option for "Delete e-mail from server" "When I delete from Inbox" which appeared to be exactly what I wanted. However that doesn't work either - they delete from the Inbox but they DON'T delete from the BT / Yahoo server even when that option is selected.

I use e-mail a lot and that is why I specifically enquired about the e-mail handling capability.

Please tell me (in basic English, not complex tech-speak!) that I am wrong and there is a way of getting my Sony Xperia Z3 Compact to handle e-mails in the way that I want!

They would clear if you use the BT Email app but this no longer exists so if you are using the Email app built in then no they won't delete as these are being saved on your phone as well as your Pc - If this were Gmail then this would be accomplished, you could try a 3rd party email app that won't save emails merely sync on connection maybe something like K9 email
