Well my wife is furious right now over her Z1 and issues with email and data usage. She's at the point that she just wants to go switch back to the Iphone and I understand her frustration.

See here:

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1/Emails-not-coming-through-for-hours/m-p/465845#U465845

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1/Major-Problem-with-email-using-LOTS-of-data-please-help/m-p/465159#U465159

She can't be missing emails because of her field of work, so this is a major issue that she can't just wait out and hope it fixes itself.

I've spent hours yesterday and today trying to find solutions online with no help. I did a full reset of the phone last night - still nothing.

If anyone can offer some immediate auggestions I would really appreciate it. I told her to hold off till tomorrow before going back to the store in the hopes we can find a solution. The phone has a lot of great features, but when one as basis as email is failing her I can understand her frustrationg.

Major Problem with email - using LOTS of data - please help

Hey everyone. We just got the Z1 for my wife and ever since she's been using it her data usage has been skyhigh compared to the Iphone. Looking at the data usage for individual apps, email is clearly the culprit.

It is sent to retrieve messages every 15 minutes, but I can't imagine that's the issue. My Samsung S4 is set to the same with no issues.

One big issue that we've had since day one is that it seems to take forever to load email after hitting the refresh button. The refresh progress bar (where the lines move) goes on for minutes without anything happening. We've waited up to 10 minutes before to have any new email come in.

Really would like some help here as we can't keep going through all this data - it easily will take us over our 5GB a month! Without a solution we'll be forced to exchange it for another phone (and she loves it other than this problem)

I have a hotmail and a gmail account loaded on my phone (using the default email program) and emails are not coming through for hours. It's set to check every 15 minutes, however as an example no emails at all came through overnight (when in fact there were plenty). When I click the refresh button, it takes at least 5 minutes to show any new emails, usually closer to 10 minutes.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Have you notice any difference if you your mobile networks or Wi-Fi?

Since you E-mail seems to arrive late it could be a problem with the Internet connection.

If its not, an easy way to check if this could be related to the default E-mail app you can download a third party application for E-mail and check if you get the same problem.

Internet is fine in terms of any web browsing. Happens on both wifi and LTE. Is there a third-party email app that is recommended?

At first glance, it appears we're having the same problem with K-9! What on earth, this is very frustrating. No problem with any surfing, apps that use data etc. It seems to be isolated to email.

If you get the same kind of problem using other mail applications as well the problem is most likely located at the server side. Check if this is something that can be adjusted by your E-mail provider.

This is happening with her Gmail, Hotmail and work account. If it was on the server side, I don't think we would be seeing the same problem across all three.

I tried another full wipe of the phone without restoring any backup last night. Still experiencing the same issue. We load her email account on my Samsung as a test and no issue.

Again through the entire night no email came through even though it is set to syn automatically. She hit refresh in the morning and in 5-10 minutes finally the overnight emails hit.

I'm beginning to think it's a faulty handset.
