Xperia X10 Unable to Start Wifi/Bluetooth?

I'm getting this problem where I can connect to WiFi the first time with no problem but once I disconnect and the phone sleeps, it can't connect to the network again and says "Unable to Start WiFi", I can't even get to Wireless settings because it can't start the WiFi.

It's the same story with Bluetooth. It'll work once.

If I turn the phone off and then on again, it will work once more but only ONCE before doing the same thing again.

What can I do to fix this?

Hi,

Firstly I would try an update service (www.sonyericsson.com/update) to reinstall the current software, or install new software if available.

I haven't seen this before (or experienced it with my X10), but maybe others can chime in if they have seen this, or have a trick to fix it.

Hi Jeff,

I'll try to give that a shot and see what happens. Hopefully it fixes it up. I know I'm running the latest software from Sony Ericsson straight out of the box. But we'll try again.

Ok, so, I recently updated my phone...but it hasn't done anything to change the problem. Any other suggestions?

I couldn't use bluetooth/wifi but it would pair up with another bluetooth phone no problem.

When I asked about it in O2 they said I had to set up a Google mail account to download the Bluetooth App and then it would all work. So if you haven't done so already that's what you need to do and if you have then I have no idea what you should do next except go to your nearest store and get them to set it up for you.

I spent £200 on a phone that doesn't come with working bluetooth/wifi!?!?!??!....come on Sony Ericsson!!

We're not all techie geeks, I don't really want yet another email account. I love this phone but I try and have a life so I don't want email, social networking or internet on my phone but it would have been nice to be able to transfer my photos from my old phone without having to backload them via a pc and then do file transfers via a cable.

Hello,

Just bought my phone yesterday, have exactly the same problem... I need to restart the phone completely in order to get it working again (for a short while).

I already upgraded the firmware to the latest version, to no avail...

When I want to switch on WIFI it says 'Unable to start WIFI'.

When I connect to my car stereo it works for 5-10 mins, then the car stereo no longer finds the phone, when I check in the phone BT is still switched on, when I try switching it off and on again I am unable to start the BT again.

Should I return the device to the store, send it for repair,...?

Did the topic starter already get a solution for his problem?

Check your settings.

I had a similar issue shortly after the firmware update. My phone would "sleep" and go into "airplane mode" at the same time.

I use 'Bluetooth File Transfer'. Seems pretty good to me.

newalk - you only need the gmail account to access the Google-related stuff for the phone. You don't have to use it for other stuff, so you could see it, perhaps, as a handy place to keep your messages and information about the phone.

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem as the original poster. That is, after turning the phone on, I can enable WI-FI or Bluetooth, but if the phone sleeps for a while then they both stop working and attempting to restart either service produce an "Unable to start WI-FI" message (and similar for Bluetooth).

The phone is fully up to date (according to PC Companion), versions are as follows:

Model number: X10i

Firmware version: 1.6

Baseband version: 1.1.28

Kernel version: 2.6.29-rel semc-android@SEMC #2

Build number: R2BA024

I'm with Vodafone in Australia.

HI All , I have been struggling with this phone for about 3 weeks now trying to get the wifi to work. I have basically read all the forums on the net with all the discussions about this problem and nothing really works as some say there’s are working fine and others have my problem. I don’t know.

So now I want to hear from someone at SE, and how are they going to address this issue which is plaguing the X10 community. After each factory reset default my wifi connects once and after a sleep or me disconnecting the wifi it fails to reconnect. This happens at home or at the university.

I have switch the wifi sleep priorty to to never. But it doesnt work. Is this issue going to be resolved in And 2.1 ???

You have got a google phone and now complain that you wont get a google account ???? Like high-end customizable device it is not for dudes, You could get exactly the best Pc in the world like mine but if you are not an expert you will do several system crashes as well while I'm not. The point is WHY have you got this phone if it is not for you? Be more selective when choosing phone device! Go with Blackberry.

This issue does appear quite isolated, so for those of you still experiencing issues, I recommend you call your local office and discuss warranty/exchange/repair options (whatever applies for your location).
