Automatic Google search

After I updated my Xperia S to JB i noted that when using Whatsapp, as soon as I would type a character, it would automatically jump to google search. At other times, I would type in characters but nothing would appear on whatsapp. I went and disabled google search and chrome but i still have the issue with Whatsapp. Now instead of jumping to google search my conversation gets highlighted and unless i go and tap the conversation I cannot enter text to write a message. Also i note that sometimes when this happens, my clock widget has a blue box around it (like its being highlighted). So i have to go and tap on my clock widget and then navigate back to whatsapp to write my message.

Anyone else having this issue? Please help

If you are only having this issue when using the Whatsap application it would be worth uninstalling/reinstalling it to see if it is just a problematic installation.
