Phone says it's up to date but there is an update when conmected to PC Companion

I have an Xperia V and I have been checking the phone regularly forbtjr anticipatedjelly bean update.

The device keeps saying everything is up to date. However I was alerted by my cousin that there is an upmdate available when you connect the device to PC companion.

True enough, when I plugged it in, my phone was offered an update.

So my question is, why on earth ia there a check for updates option on the phone when it dowa not work?

Most phones prompt you automatically the moment there is one if you allow automatic checks.

Sony is really starting to puzzel me with bugs in bread and butter functions of their phones.

the PCC on your PC is probably thinking that you have an older firmware.

This is normally the case for our phones as well. Is the update center app in your phone set to automatically search for updates? It should by default.

Sometimes some updates depending on customization get a notification in the phone and also the update OTA but this can differ between market and customizations.
