Hi

Can anyone tell me if I can repair may XPeria Active in Japan?

I had a very stable running Xperia Active, but it suddenly stopped working.

FIrst the problem was that after booting I could not get the screen on with the power button.

I could boot up for 3-4 times after plugging out the battery.

After removing the battery for like 1 hour, Xperia Active never powered up the screen or LED.

Well as it was bootloader unlocked, I thought I buy a new one and got one today.

However, the new phone is dead again. This time it is a brand new phone and I only inserted SIM and

MicroSD and did the setup. during phone call test, the new Xperia Active froze. so I had to unplug the battery.

After inserting the battery, same thing happened: screen never powering up anymore.

I tried SEUS on my old one, Flash mode seems to work. however after updating, its still the same. screen is not

showing anything. It only vibrates once very short then its done. wipe did not help.

When I plug in the device into a PC, Windows tries to install drivers but fails at MTP USB Device.

So I want to repair my phone, but I dont know where. the phone is not sold in Japan. In manual I find

every country support mail but no Japan. Why??

But did you try to start the phone without simcard and memory card, or did you just remove battery, simcard and memory card, put it all back in and then start the phone? Make sure that the simcard AND memory card are both NOT in the phone when you try to start the phone.

What happens if you connect the charger to the phone? Not via the PC, but via the wall plug. Does the battery charging screen come up after a while? If the charging screen does come up, did you try to start the phone from there? As in, press and hold the power button for a second while the charging screen is up.

If the charging screen does not come up at all, remove the battery and connect to the charger while the battery is not in the phone.

This is all just to rule out problems with battery, simcard and memory card.

It looks like I am joining the club with my Xperia Active. This is almost stock phone, only OsmAnd installed after updating the firmware to Ice Cream Sandwich (and later OTA upgrade to .587). On the Gingerbread, I also had used My Tracks.

It started a few weeks ago when I noticed that the phone will not update its search index with any video, photo or sound files. That problem was fixed by going to the software settings and clearing the internal storage (both memory and SD) of some media service application. As a result, all thumbnails were initially lost, but after rebooting the phone they gradually appeared.

The next step was that last week, pushing the power button to wake up the screen would only light up the display backlight and the backlight of the 3 buttons under the screen, but the screen itself would remain black for several seconds.

Yesterday, it became worse. The screen would remain black for more than 15 seconds (my configured screensaver timeout). A forced reboot (removing and reinstalling the battery) cured it at first. Keeping wifi disabled may have helped. 3g data was not enabled. Once, I was able to connect adb logcat during the boot-up procedure when the screen would remain black. It seemed to enter an infinite loop that said a class name that was something like ‘tsygosis’, among the few dozen repeated lines.

Today (after 3 or 4 such forced reboots since yesterday) the phone would not display anything on reboot either. It vibrates, but the screen remains black. There is some USB activity according to Linux dmesg. The bootloader can be accessed by removing battery, replacing battery, depressing the Volume Down button, and inserting the USB cable to computer. I popped in the Windows XP harddisk to an old laptop and reinstalled the newest firmware with the Update Service. It did not help.

After the firmware reinstall, I cannot attach adb to the phone any more, and USB Mass Storage is not working either, even though the capability is advertised when the cable is connected. It looks like the phone is in some kind of reboot loop. When starting the phone by removing and replacing the battery and pushing the power button, it still vibrates shortly and the screen remains black. I guess that the vibration is done by the bootloader, which still works.

Could it be that some internal database is wedged? The system would get gradually slower due to this database corruption, until it becomes fully unusable. Is there any way to perform factory reset over the USB?

I have also been thinking of upgrading to CyanogenMod or Replicant, but I would not want to lose the warranty (is it 2 years EU-wide?) or access to hardware (camera, FM radio, ANT+Sport, GPS, wlan, phone).

I finally got the phone back yesterday. Not only the firmware was downgraded to 4.0.2.A.0.62 (the Android 2.3.4 version with the well-known root exploit fixed) but also most parts were replaced. I still consider this a software failure.

Actually I might like the 2.3.4 Gingerbread better than the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. I am considering a downgrade to .42 and then rooting the device, so that I can get rid of the unwanted applications.
