Xperia U GPS Precision

I have buyed a sony xperia u but the GPS fix is too long and when it fixed my position the precision is too bad like altitude negative! I tried to change the phone and restore but the problem remain, any suggestion?

It's sound like software problem, it's possible?

I used GpsFix and GPS Status apps from google play.

Laverdone, (1) Switch Off GPS and first check that what is your location on google map. When GPS is off, the phone decides your location based on cell tower location. Check that your location is correct within 1 - 2 Km.

(2) If this is so then turn on GPS and check that your location is shown within few meters accuracy.

another thing is that some apps can show altitude as negative !! This is because app converts GPS WGS84 standard data to another local frame where ur location may be below the reference altitude. So negative alt is no prob. But Google Map should show correct altitude over mean sea level(MSL)

ok, i will tried it later, but why my old htc nexus one with some apps fix the correct location and altitude?

i have the same problem with my Xperia U .it takes too long to find my location .

I just hope it would be a software problem.and will be fixed in later updates.

Laverdone Hi ! The experia u gps seems to be giving out (latitude,Longitude, altitude) in WGS84 format. In this cas altitude will be negative on many places on earth. As the location would be below the reference ellipsoid of WGS84 standard.

Your HTC Nexus One app must properly converting this data to your region thus giving correct location and altitude.

Let me know what app u used on HTC Nexus ?

Does same app work properly on xperia u ?

GPS fix taking long time is seen in many phones. First make sure that atleast four gps satellites are available, as gps fix needs that. If less than four satellite are received indoors or in basement etc then gps can not give fix and takes long time.

This I believe can be solved by SONY through software improvement. The phone location service should rely on cell towers if gps fix not available within certain time (say 1 minute) and notify so to user. The user may then should be able to choose whether to continue gps fix or not .

Have you tried enabling both GPS and wireless/mobile networks connection to get position?

Menu > Settings > Location & security

I had a W8i before Xperia U and it worked without Wireless Network !!! Why we Should enable it ?! i said before,how can i use it when i'm Out of Network range ?! when i haven't any Network Signal in a Forest or a Desert !! SONY Should Fix it soon !

i have the same problem GPS takes so long to detect my location sometimes forever, ive updated my software to 6.0.B.3.184 and its not fixed yet, pls does anybody has solved it ?!

Maybe it fix in ICS Frimware,i'm not sure but i know they don't fix it in 2.3.7 ...

We believe that this will make a huge difference in time to first fix performance for most users.

Please let us know if you still see these problems after updating to Android 4.0.

Hey,

i also have a new Sony Xperia U and the GPS is also not working

With my old HTC Endomondo worked fine. Now the GPS cannot find satellites.

Even in MAPS my location can not be found.

My phone is update according the PC companion :

Android version 2.3.7

Build 6.0.B.3.184

is this software or hardware problem ???

I also have a new Xperia U and my GPS cannot find satellites, my friends find with there phones up to 5. I think this is not a software-problem, I guess this is a hardware problem.

Oskar is a GPS Developer,not Camera Developer.But i think ICS has a new Software for it,because it has a lot of bugs

Yes I knew that but I was referring to the developer guys working at the soft. He knows more than us being there. It would be nice that the guy in charge with the camera to come here like Oskar did and to talk to us. And also to inform us what are the details for video and photos (like bitrate, fps, MP etc) for each update. Why bother update to 184 if the camera is the same? Or to ICS...At least now we know that GPS will be better.
