Possibly having a similar problem. I was given my mum's x10 mini and have been trying to get my contact list properly synced, meaning i've been switching the SIM between my old phone and the x10 a few times. Now the x10 won't switch on when the SIM is inserted. It comes on without it, but with it in it just vibrated a bit when the on button is pressed and nothing more happens. The SIM works fine with the old phone (a w995).

The suggested fix didn't work btw.

Make sure the phone is charged! Try a Hardware reset. The Hardware reset on the X10 mini is done by pressing the On/Off key at the top and the Home (middle) key at the same time. This does not remove any content or applications.

Same problem here. (x10 mini pro)

If the battery dries out completely (so that mobile turns itself off), phone cannot be turned on with any sim card in it (tried with few different sim cards).

Since it cannot be charged while it is off, you have to remove sim card to charge the battery.

Even when the battery is fully charged, phone cannot be turned on while sim card is in it.

Running repair from the SE PC companion (same place update is located), fixes the temporarly problem (but removes all your data). But when battery dries out completely - same problem happens. Obviously reinstalling the system every time it happens is not a solution.

Backup and restore though doesn't solve the problem (so it is deeper in the system)

Any ideas?

I only have a X1 mini pro, so this is probably different, but I certainly can charge the phone while it is switched off.

Seems very strange to me...

Don't actually if the phone has something similar to the PC, like the BIOS battery that helps your PCs internal clock etc. staying alive while PC is switched off...maybe this is defect in your phone?

Think I might know what happened, though I don't see that it makes much sense.

Was having some trouble with syncing the contacts list from my old phone, and decided to delete the contacts on the sim because that list is outdated. Did that on the old phone after having the sim in the x10 for a while. When I put it back in the x10 it looked like the phone wouldn't switch on but it did after about 10 minutes of just lying there. I didn't press the button again, it came on on its own. So maybe it spent all that time figuring out that the data on the sim had changed??

When I connect turned off phone to a charger or to PC, it first turns on (by itself) and then starts charging.

It appears that something get's screwed up when mobile turns itself of when battery is completely empty.

Waiting for hours to turn on (after battery is fully charget), or starting with "home" key doesn't help at all.

Same thing happened to me today. Phone refuses to start with SIM-card installed, just vibrates briefly when the start-button is pressed. Starts ok without SIM-card, will even let me use the Web with wi-fi. Battery is about 60% charged.

Circumstances of death: I was trying to synchronise calendar and contacts over 3g without success (I normally use wi-fi). Since sync operation appeared to hang, I tried to reset by switching off the phone. Then it refused to start again. There were no other symptoms of any kind before I switched it off. I have had the phone for 8 days.

I have tried the SIM-card on my old SE k800i, and it works just fine there.

Then everything worked except Google sync over wi-fi.

A final reset to factory values (Settings > SD card > Factory data reset) put the last pieces in place. Fortunately all my contacts were already synced with Gmail contacts, and SD card was untouched. All apps had to be reinstalled.

Will see if they can fix that...

@OleE For me, that fixes the issue temporary, first next time my battery dries out, it will not start again.

Hello, im having the same problem here. But i already get a new phone from the store and the problem persists, Then have asked the mobile company a new sim card, and guess what.... the problem persists. Sadly they dont accept a brand or model change, and they only offer me a new X10 mini for test. Sony Ericson is the first and last buy for sure. I just love Android and when i got the chance will get a real phone. The SE dont even answer, so we dont have much option as wait to 2.1 to fix this.

I took the phone to SE service center twice already (currently it is there for the third time), and they did something that solved problem temporary - I could start it again, but only until next time battery dries out.

So at least now I know how to do what they did by myself, thanks.

Hope though that this is different, and solves problem permanently, though I am not to optimistic. But at least makes problem little more bareable...

Hi, same problem here, guess we have found a real bug in x10 (mini pro in my case). I tried your solution, but pc campanion says my phone is updated and only gives me the option to repair. I tried that, but after downloading, when it is installing it displays an error message. So I made a factory reset and it just work, but I dont know for how long, just hoping this wont happen again when battery dries out. Another thing I notice with this bug is that when we press the on button and it doesnt respond (just the slightly vibration), it actually is on, because it gets very hot after a while if you leave the SIM card in the phone, and the battery is still used, but nothing is shown in the screen.
