Hi all,

I'm trying to setup my children's account on my X90J. I seem to remember that at some point we could add children, but at the time I was not interested.

I have successfully added them to a Chromecast that is connected to an old "dumb" Bravia I have, but when I try to do the same on my X90J it says that the account cannot be added because it's a child account.

Am I missing something?

Hi @LightFoot. Thanks for your reply.

Parental controls do not help in this instance. I'm less interested in the controlling element, although it is also important, and more interested in allowing my children to use their Google accounts on TV so that they can use their YouTube accounts, get recommendations that are appropriate for them etc.

Here's how it works on the Chromecast: Google TV: Keep your children safe by setting up kids profiles (androidpolice.com) and Get started with a Google kids profile on Google TV - Google For Families Help.

I am simply expecting the same to be available on my TV, being Google TV and all.

The worst is that I have a vague recollection is this working before, but of course I could just be wrong.

Hi,

You should be able to do this by going to the Home screen, go all the way up then, all the way to the right and select your profile photo, it should list all the accounts on the TV, and it should give you the option to add one.

Let us know what did you achieve by doing these steps.

Hi @Anonymous. That is exactly what I've done. The TV responds that I cannot add the account I'm trying to add because it's a child account.

In my Chromecast, after I select my profile photo and select the option to add an account, I have the option to add a "full" account or a child one. This step does not exist on my X90J.

You can just use this option and add your kids account and tell us what happens (Manage accounts > Add another account)

That's what I did. The TV throws back an error saying that I can't add a child account.

I tried again today to get the precise error message.

After I put my child's email address and password, I get the following error:

"Something went wrong. The software on this device isn't compatible with your child's Google Account."

This works fine on my Chromecast.

This feature isn't available in all regions or on all TVs, can you check out this link and let me know if you followed it and what happens?

Hi @HannahEd01. My TV does not show this option:

2. Under "Who’s watching," select Add a kid and then Get started.

My Chromecast does, which is how I managed to add my children to it, but unfortunately I can't do the same on my X90J.

Is there a list somewhere of which TVs are supported? And why, although I appreciate that would be a tricky thing to get from Sony.

Hey Lima27, it appears to be that these are the only ones to support it as per a Google Blog? It also shows certain models on other brands names, here's the Blog link:

But you better confirm it with Google support directly, as this is entirely related to Google.
