KD49XH8505 no 5.1 audio

My TV is only outputting Stereo via the Optical cable.

I have changed all the settings but can't get 5.1 into my old Yamaha amp.

This is the same for all apps, Netflix, Disney etc.

I don’t fully understand Optical but have you checked that the Digital audio out is not set to PCM, Always output in PCM. I don’t use Optical (now ancient) but mine is set to Auto 1 Output compressed audio without change.

Yes, I've tried Auto 1, Auto 2 and PCM but they all output Srereo only.

Have you disabled the internal speaker, right?

Yes, changed it to Audio System.

It could be a problem of the apps (disney for sure had problem in the past since it uses DD+ that is not supported over optical). Have you tried with a sample file via mediaplayer?

OK I have fixed the problem by using a HDMI ARC DAC, taking the audio from HDMI 3 and connecting the Optical cable to the DAC. I now have 5.1 from Disney+ and all the other apps.
