topic Rif.: Android Version in Android TV

I had a complete Samsung home entertainment system in my house and replaced
it for a Sony home entertainment system as I wanted Google Android TV. I
bought 3 X 4K Sony Android TV's together with soundbars and blu-ray
players. I replaced my Samsung S9 smartphone with a Google Pixel phone.

If I had known that Sony weren't going to update Android TV in a timely
fashion, I would have bought another brand of TV and a Nvidia Shield which
is updated regularly with the latest version of Android TV.

As to why I think I need it, regular updates provide security, bug fixes
and the latest version of Android TV. My three Sony 4K Android TV currently
have version 8 of the software whilst the official current version is 10
and will soon be updated to version 11.

Whilst accepting that there is no obligation on OEM's to provide regular
software updates, it would be nice to know this before I made a purchase as
I have spent
thousands of euro's on Sony products which I now find will not be updated
with the latest Android updates.

Aside from the Android updates issue, I would have to say that I am really
happy with my 4K Sony television.

I have a Sony 4K android TV model no. KH49XG8196 and the version of Android is 8, whilst google have already released version 10. When are Sony going to release the current version or do I have to buy the latest Sony TV to get this version. It really annoys me when manufactures do not release new versions of software in a timely manner. I changed my mobile to google for this very reason. Does anyone know if Sony has plans to at least release Android 9 for my TV or do I need to purchase an Android TV box which defeats the purpose of buying the TV in the first place.

I have a couple of these TV's.

Androdi tv versions release and deploy to different OEM is quite different that the mobile version. Actually there is no official commitment to release Pie on your TV. But why do you think you need it?

Security updates are released quite frequently (if you are on Android, the latest has been release today) and are not related to the version (at least until a version is considered obsolete). Moreover having the latest features on a mobile is quite different than having it on a TV. If you look at the GUI on Android TV nothing has been changed from Oreo to Pie and even on 10 or 11. And no TV spotting Android TV has still implemented 10 while google is release 11. It's different.

Android 9 is already available for TV models that have a newer processor (a few 2018 models, some 2019 ones and any 2020 TV). For older processor there are rumours but nothing confirmed or announced.

The Model of the television I have is KD49XG8196. I purchased it in October
2019. Is this one of the 2019 models that should get Android 9 or is it
models above this?
