I am unable to connect a Bluetooth headphone or speaker to the KD-49XF7596 android TV.

Please help !!

Welcome to the Sony Online Community! I hope you haven't been told that you could do that with your TV. Your TV supports only the following 3 Bluetooth profiles:

HID (mouse/keyboard connectivity)
HOGP (Low Energy device connectivity)
SPP (Serial Port Profile)

To connect your TV to wireless Bluetooth headphones, you require the A2DP and AVRCP profile. That is the reason why you can't connect your TV with your Bluetooth headphones. But don't be disappointed, you could easily purchase a 3.5mm stereo Bluetooth transmitter and connect it to the headphones jack on your TV. Examples can be found here and here.
